There are developers that change more about the game in two weeks nowadays, yet they went silent for almost 2 years only dropping a full overhaul with the expansion. In the modern landscape that shit would not fly. Patches like the hellfire ring and first few re-balances were band aids at best. The game itemization and overall lack of endgame design was the main issue, plus they were not treating their always online game like you would expect a modern game as a service to be treated. I made $600+ off it and the game was certainly very active during that time. Blizzard fans are not the kind to follow through on backlash.Ĭlick to shrink.I was there for the real money action house. The whole situation is very amusing to me, but in a week everything will be forgotten and this game will make so much money from those same guys that I doubt there will be any temporary or permanent damage here. Honestly, I wouldn't doubt Blizzard'll scramble to put something together pronto. But then the mobile game announcement came and that really feels like rubbing salt in their open wounds. You don't hype shit to sell tickets and walk it back last minute without making people feel shit about it. I can certainly understand Diablo fans (especially the ones who attend conventions) feeling slighted by the mixed messages. obviously D4 is happening at some point, but if they walked it back like that it's because they are really not even ready to show anything. Then when this finally happened, I went "Oh". I started to doubt if I had even heard right the first time around. But then in a subsequent episode they talked about Blizzard coming out and practically throwing cold water on Diablo in general, saying "don't expect anything big", so that definitely threw me off as well. Everything from D4 to D2 remaster to new D3 content (the most unlikely, I admit) was mentioned around here. I remember Brad and Jeff talking in the Bombcast about the possibility of a "big" Diablo thing with gusto, and it certainly felt that way from the way they were communicating.
